Vince Gilligan, creator of Breaking Bad, the hit TV series lauded as one of TV’s greatest shows, brings his Pluribus to Apple TV. Previously announced in July, November saw the release of the first two episodes, with run times of close to an hour each, and, if using Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul as a benchmark, a similar runtime of more than 50 minutes can be assumed for Pluribus.
For context, the first two episodes were 56 and 62 minutes, respectively. The pilot, ‘We is Us,’ and the second episode, ‘Pirate Lady,‘ were released on November 7, scoring high ratings from fans and critics alike.
Some of the more noteworthy fans of the series include Kojima Productions founder Hideo Kojima, who has written a gushing review of the series' very first episode. He stated:
I finally got to watch the first episode of Vince Gilligan’s long-awaited new series, “Pluribus!” Oh my god—this is incredible. Absolutely incredible. It pulls you in right from the opening scene. Vince really is a genius!
In an interview with Variety, Gilligan had said that he was thinking about the idea for a while, and while writing it down:
I started pondering this idea almost 10 years ago. It was originally about a guy, because I tend to think that way,” As he kept figuring Pluribus out, towards the end of Better Call Saul, Gilligan had an epiphany in the form of Rhea Seahorn as his main character. He started writing the character just for her without even telling her, “You just can’t take your eyes off her. She’s got a wonderful charisma. And she can do anything — make you laugh, make you cry.
Added into the credits of the show was a line that read “ This show was made by Humans.” Gilligan is known for his dislike of how AI is used and is quite vocal about the entire affair.
I hate AI,” creator Vince Gilligan told Variety with a chuckle:
AI is the world’s most expensive and energy-intensive plagiarism machine. I think there’s a very high possibility that this is all a bunch of horseshit. It’s basically a bunch of centibillionaires whose greatest life goal is to become the world’s first trillionaires. I think they’re selling a bag of vapor.
The show has a weekly release schedule; episodes air every Friday, and the third episode, titled “Grenade”, will be available to stream on Apple TV on Friday, the 14th of November.
