Hasselblad has just launched the XCD 2.5/25V, a fast wide-angle lens for medium format cameras of the X system. With 13 lenses in 10 groups, including four aspherical lenses, the lens is designed to achieve first-class image quality, even at close distances to the subject.

The Hasselblad XCD 2.5/25V combines a 35 mm equivalent focal length of 20 mm with a minimum focus distance of 25 cm and a maximum aperture of f/2.5, making the lens ideal for low-light photography. A total of 13 lenses in 10 groups, including four aspherical lenses and three ED glass elements, are concealed in the approximately 10.5 cm long housing with a diameter of 7.2 cm.

This complex lens structure is intended to ensure that the resolution of the 100 MP sensor of the Hasselblad X2D can be fully utilized. The lens supports autofocus; when the focus ring is pushed forward, the XCD 2.5/25V switches to manual focus, including a depth-of-field scale. The central shutter of the lens supports shutter speeds up to 1/4000 of a second, and flashes can be synchronized over the entire shutter speed range.

At a weight of 592 gm, the lens is relatively light in terms of image circle and aperture. Users can screw on standard 72 mm filters. According to data published by Hasselblad, the lens vignettes by around two f-stops at open aperture, lines are distorted by up to 3% and the detail resolution at the edge of the image is around 40% (MTF 40 lp/mm at f/2.5).

Price and availability

The Hasselblad XCD 2.5/25V is now available on Hasselblad's online store for $3699.00, including free shipping.
