HTC has just presented a new member of the Wildfire series, which is once again slated for the lowest price segment. Even so, HTC has still opted for a relatively modern design with a flat frame, two round camera modules and a flat back, which comes in either blue or black. Only the display with its wide chin and notch give away its status as a budget smartphone.
The Wildfire E5 Plus has a 6.745-inch, 90 Hz 720p+ display, a 16 MP selfie camera, a 50 MP main camera and a secondary 2 MP camera, meaning that the second camera module is basically a decorative feature. HTC installs a Unisoc Tiger T606, a 12 nm ARM chip from 2019 that has two ARM Cortex-A75 performance cores with boost clock frequencies of up to 1.6 GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores.
It also has 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, of which the latter can be expanded using a microSD memory card. The 5,000 mAh battery is charged via USB-C. A 4G modem is on board, so 5G is not supported. The entry-level smartphone comes with Android 14, but HTC has not confirmed how long the Wildfire E5 Plus will be supplied with updates. Headphones can be connected either via Bluetooth 5.0 or via a 3.5 mm plug.
Prices and availability
The HTC Wildfire E5 Plus will initally be launched in Vietnam, where a variant with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage will be priced at 2,379,000 VND (approx. $93). HTC has not yet confirmed any details about an international launch.
