HP ProBook 455 G7 Laptop with faster performance and unaffected battery life
The HP ProBook 455 G7 is an inexpensive office laptop with good battery life. HP has equipped the ProBook 455 G7 with AMD's latest Renoir APU, resulting in noticeably faster performance. However, the octa-core CPU does not support SMT. The laptop was still able to achieve both excellent single-thread and very good multi-thread performance in our testing. Furthermore, the SoC comes with the iGPU Radeon RX Vega 7 that offers more performance than Intel's UHD Graphics. Regardless, gamers are setting themselves up for disappointment with this laptop. The iGPU barely manages to run older games and even then, the graphics settings have to be slightly lowered. That being said, the HP ProBook 455 G7 was not made for gaming. Instead, the device has been designed with business customers in mind. While the laptop's security features are a solid foundation for this use case, users will not have access to a smart card reader.
In our tests, the device delivered fast performance without reaching high noise levels. The cooling solution works very quietly and the heat development on the surfaces is moderate. Compared to the predecessor, not a lot has changed in terms of the available ports. A Thunderbolt 3 port is still missing. However, there is Wi-Fi 6 for faster wireless data transfer rates.
The installed display is suitable for exclusive office use. Since the color gamut is far too low, users who wish to do photo or video editing would be wise to connect an external display.
Overall, the HP ProBook 455 G7 has made a fairly good impression in our review. The design looks attractive and very modern thanks to the slim construction. The lack of a maintenance hatch can be excused, particularly since removing the bottom plate is not a big challenge. Our test device is equipped with 16 GB of RAM and a 512-GB SSD. Users who need more memory can easily upgrade their device. The input devices are reliable and suited to even longer typing. Similarly, the ClickPad is a good mouse replacement.
Since the HP ProBook 455 G7 does not have any major drawbacks, it achieved a good score in our review. HP should still consider implementing the Thunderbolt 3 interface to keep the device future-proof. Buyers of the ProBook 455 G7 also benefit from a long warranty, which is not always a given.
