High-end Nvidia RTX 4000 laptop prices are finally in free fall. Almost half a year back, HP’s Omen 17 equipped with an RTX 4080 was approaching the US$2,000 threshold, and now the prices are getting close to the US$1,500 mark. Ebay has one of the best deals yet, offering that particular HP Omen 17 model at US$1,769.99 + free shipping.

Besides the RTX 4080 dGPU with 12 GB VRAM, HP includes an Intel i7-13700HX that is complemented by 16 GB of DDR5-4800 RAM and a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. The 17.3-inch screen is decent, with 1440p resolution, 240 Hz refresh rate and 100 sRGB color gamut, although some may see the 300-nit maximum brightness as a minus.

Port selection is on the premium side, with a Thunderbolt 4 connector as well as a full-size SD card reader, plus 3x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI 2.1 + miniDP video outs, 1 GbE jack and audio combo jack. Wireless connection is offered through a Wi-Fi 6E + BT 5.3 card. The webcam has a 720p sensor, while the 83 Wh battery proved somewhat insufficient in our tests.

Despite the chassis being on the thicker side at 1.06 inches with a total weight of 6.17 lbs, our reviewers found that the cooling system still could not offer optimal performance, resulting in high noise levels, which also pulled the RTX 4080 performance slightly below average.
