The HMD Crest was announced in July 2024 as a budget 5G smartphone for India. In December 2024, it was revealed that it will get a global launch and thus will no longer be exclusive to India. Now, more details of the global variant, including the price, have surfaced in a new leak.
According to a post made by smashx_60 on X, the source who first revealed the phone will get a global release, the international version of the HMD Crest will be different from the Indian variant in a number of ways. First, it will be available in a new color — white. When it launched in India, it was released in Midnight Blue, Royal Pink, and Lush Lilac.
In addition, while the Indian variant is available with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the global version of the HMD Crest will have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Another difference between the two variants is a new packaging for the global variant which will not include a charger in the box. The HMD Crest sold in India comes with a charger. Save for these, the rest of the specs should be the same.
The HMD Crest has a 6.67'' OLED display with an FHD+ resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. It is powered by a Unisoc T760 processor and there's a microSD card slot for adding more storage. The phone has a 50MP front-facing camera and another 50MP camera on the rear alongside a 2MP depth sensor.
The HMD Crest ships with Android 14 out of the box and we don't expect HMD Global to ship the global version with Android 15. Nevertheless, the source says the phone will receive 2 Android OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates.
The phone has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, an audio jack, and a 5,000mAh battery capacity with support for 33W fast wired charging. In India, the phone sells for ₹14,499 (~$168/€161) but according to the leaked info, the global version of the phone will be priced at $139.99.
There's still no release date yet for the global version of the HMD Crest, but it most likely isn't far off.
