Google announces Workspace Flows process automation, Gemini features for Docs, Sheets, Meet, and more

Google’s Cloud Next 2025 event is underway and the company has announced several improvements to its Workspace tools with AI features. To help businesses drive results, Gemini is being integrated deeper into Docs, Sheets, Meet, Chat and other tools, and a new way to automate work across these apps has been introduced. Dubbed Workspace Flows, it is being rolled out to customers that are part of the alpha program. 

Workspace Flows

Workspace Flows uses Gems, which are custom AI agents based on Gemini, to automate multi-step processes. This can allow businesses to perform research, analyze data, and generate the desired content, all through text prompts. In a demo, Google shows how Workspace Flows can keep track of incoming customer feedback. Using steps like “When a form response comes in”, “Ask Gemini,” and telling it what to do through a text prompt, followed by “Post a message in a space” automates the process of analyzing customer feedback and prioritizing it based on severity.

This Gem can be trained to give suitable responses to the customer as well. The AI agent will then look at customer feedback, go through the documentation, and respond to the customer with a solution. 

Workspace Flows is available to customers in the Gemini for Google Workspace Alpha program.

Audio and Help me refine features in Docs

Google Docs is getting full audio readouts for documents as well as podcast-style overviews. This is meant to help users doublecheck their scripts or any document by presenting them as if they are being read out by someone. This feature will be available in alpha in the coming weeks.

The Help me refine feature is meant to provide “thoughtful suggestions on how to strengthen your argument, improve the structure of your piece, or make your key points clearer,” among other features. The idea is to not just rewrite the text but have a writing coach helping users improve their skill. This feature will also be available in alpha but later in this quarter.

Help me analyze in Google Sheets

This feature will be an on-demand analyst that will provide helpful insights based on the data in the document. It can find trends, create charts for better visual understanding of the data, as well as suggest next steps. Help me analyze will be added to Sheets later this year.

Gemini improvements to Google Meet

Later this quarter, Gemini will be able to provide a quick summary of parts that users may have missed in a meeting, explain certain topics, generate a recap, as well as help organize thoughts to allow users to present their points more effectively.

Along with these features, Gemini improvements are coming to Chat and the new Google Vids app, which will allow alpha customers in the coming weeks to generate original video clips directly within the Vids app. These capabilities are powered by the Veo 2 model.
