Google has introduced a refresh of Android Auto, codenamed 'Coolwalk'. Leaked in February, 'Coolwalk' remains in development and is not ready for a public release yet. However, Google aims to have the refresh ready by the summer, although it has not announced a specific launch window yet. Also, Google tends to roll out Android Auto refreshes gradually, so some regions may receive it before others.

As Google's marketing images show, 'Coolwalk' allows Android Auto to adapt to different display formats. Additionally, Google has added a split-screen mode to minimise the amount of time spent navigating the UI. In that vein, Android Auto will optimise the taskbar's location as well, rather than only having it at the bottom of the display. It remains to be seen whether Google will allow people to customise its position, though.
Moreover, Google promises greater Assistant functionality with 'Coolwalk', such as improved smart replies. Furthermore, Google will be expanding 'video in the car', which it announced previously. Currently, Google has confirmed that Epix, Tubi and YouTube will be watchable, but only when parked. You can watch the full Android Auto announcement at Google I/O 2022 in the video below.
