People who like the outdoors and often go on a hike might be familiar with both Garmin and Komoot. Komoot can be used on Garmin smartwatches, and the company has now announced that it significantly expanded its set of features on Garmin devices in particular. Garmin and Komoot have been cooperating since 2017. However, there’s one notable limitation here, as Komoot is not an entirely free or ad-supported service, so the features for free users who don’t have purchased map packages can be limited.
With that out of the way, a blog post from Komoot claims that compatibility with bike computers should be significantly improved. Specifically, Komoot routes that are primarily created by other users can be easily transferred to a compatible Garmin device via Live Sync. Navigation can then be started within seconds without a lengthy synchronization. Users should be able to benefit from the detailed information of these Komoot routes, such as elevation profiles or surface types.
Routes can be adjusted rather easily and without interrupting an ongoing activity, which should ultimately simplify the analysis as individual rides or hikes aren’t split into multiple recordings. In pictures published by Komoot, compatibility with bike computers like the Garmin Edge 540 (from $349 on Amazon) is specifically advertised.
