Not too long has passed since Garmin brought the Forerunner 165 (curr. $249.99 on Amazon) onto Beta Version 20.21, a software build that it claimed contained about a dozen changes from earlier iterations. Roughly two weeks on, the company has delivered another update through its Beta Program that is said to introduce even more refinements than its predecessor.
As ever with recent Garmin updates, the story is more complicated than it may seem at first glance. By our reckoning, Beta Version 20.23 shares many of its changes with Beta Version 20.21. Specifically, the following changes appear to exist between the two Beta builds:
- Fixed crash that could occur during activities.
- Fixed crash that could occur on notification glance.
- Fixed map data field text truncation.
- Improvements to support pool swim workouts with pace alerts and critical swim speed.
According to Garmin, at least 50% of Forerunner 165 smartwatches should have already been offered Beta Version 20.23. However, this is only true if your smartwatch has been enrolled in Garmin's Beta Program; Garmin will not offer the new update at random. Please see the company's forum post for further details on Beta Version 20.23 and its guide for switching the Forerunner 165 onto beta updates.
