More details of the new Garmin Fenix 8 smartwatch have emerged. Various rumors about the battery life, display size and type of the upcoming wearable appear to have been confirmed. Plus, there is new information on solar charging technology, sensor protection and diving features.

Another retailer has leaked further information about the upcoming Garmin Fenix 8 smartwatches. Uhrenlounge.de appears to have confirmed various rumors about the wearable and provided some new information.

The website states that both AMOLED and MIP displays will be offered in the Fenix 8 range, agreeing with earlier tips. A standard version of the smartwatch will be available in 43mm, 47mm and 51mm sizes with an AMOLED display, while a solar variant will be offered in 47mm and 51mm sizes with a memory-in-pixel (MIP) display. The MIP screen has a lower power requirement, and battery life is said to be further boosted by enhanced solar charging technology. According to the retailer, the tech provides 50% more energy than older Fenix solar smartwatches.

Also seemingly confirmed by Uhrenlounge.de is a 29-day battery life for the AMOLED models in smartwatch mode and a 48-day battery life in always-on display mode for the solar wearables. On top of this, the larger display rumor is backed up here, with the 43mm model listed as using a 1.3” display, an increase on the 1.2” display of the older 42mm watch, and the 47mm versions offering a 1.4” display, compared to the 1.3” on the equivalent Fenix 7. However, the 51mm watch has the same 1.4” display. Various materials, such as a titanium or stainless steel bezel and sapphire or gorilla glass lens, will be available. Another newly leaked element is a side-mounted sensor protector, a first for the brand.

The product page also details various previously rumored features, such as a built-in speaker and microphone for calls and voice commands and Garmin Share. Tools like premium maps, an LED flashlight and the Garmin Messenger app, are included, as they were on the Fenix 7. Another new piece of information revealed about the wearable is its ability to record dives up to 40 m (~131 ft), with profiles such as recreational diving and freediving. The Garmin Fenix 8 smartwatch is expected to launch on August 27th, with prices starting from around $1,100/€999.
