Jon Peddie Research group expects to see a small decline in an otherwise stable niche market.

According to market analysts at Jon Peddie Research (JPR), the worldwide market for PC gaming in 2015 will decline by just 1.15 percent from $24.936 billion in 2014 to $24.648 billion USD. This is but a small bump compared to the rest of the PC business and JPR is even predicting significant gains for gaming notebooks in the coming years.

The analytics firm credits features like 4K UHD as a driving force for rising gaming PC sales. The prices for such panels have become more mass market as more consumer notebooks begin sporting resolutions greater than 1080p. Desktop monitors at 2K or 3K resolutions are also becoming cheaper. Gaming notebooks in the 15.6-inch or 17.3-inch categories are most popular with 4K UHD displays.

The draw of 4K UHD is also encouraging buyers to upgrade other parts of their PCs to run more smoothly on such demanding resolutions. Thus, users will be more likely to upgrade their GPUs and processors to play more demanding titles. JPR is expecting a 6 percent increase in gaming PC sales by 2016 for a total of $26.118 billion. By 2018, the firm is predicting more than $30 billion in sales.
