Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy A18 soon considering the Galaxy A17 is almost a year old. However, while the design hasn't really changed, a thicker body may be sign of a larger battery capacity.

The Galaxy A17 is just a few weeks from its first anniversary, so it is no surprise that there are already reports of its successor. Expected to launch as the Galaxy A18, renders of the upcoming budget Android smartphone have surfaced, and based on the images, not much has changed.

The Galaxy A18 renders, which were shared by Onleaks in collaboration with Smartphone Checker, show Samsung is reusing the design of the Galaxy A17 with a minor change to the camera island. This means, the Galaxy A18 will retain the Infinity U display, which will have noticeably thick bezels. It will also retain the frame design which is raised where the volume rocker and power button sit.

There's a single slit for a speaker at the bottom, alongside a microphone and a USB Type-C port. There's also a second microphone at the top, while the left side is home to the SIM card tray.

The Galaxy A18's camera island is still a vertical pill shape with three sensors, but the rings around the lenses have been modified. Samsung has also removed the thin inner outline around the cameras, and in its place is a thick outline where the camera island meets the back panel.

In terms of dimensions, the Galaxy A18 measures 164.4 x 77.8 x 7.84mm (9.74mm thick with the camera bump), and when compared to the Galaxy A17's 164.4 x 77.9 x 7.5 mm (without the camera bump), it shows that the new model will be a tad thicker. The extra thickness is expected to translate to a bigger battery, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

The Galaxy A17 has a 5,000mAh battery capacity which is small when compared to rivals. however, recent models such as the Galaxy M47 have a 6,000mAh battery capacity. Considering the Galaxy M47 is 7.8mm thick, there's a chance the Galaxy A18 may have a 6,000mAh battery, too.

Samsung is yet to announce a release date for the Galaxy A18, but it definitely won't be released alongside the new Galaxy Z foldables which are scheduled to launch this month.
