GPD Win Max 2 handheld gaming laptop shown off with interesting design changes
Previously, GPD had confirmed the design of its upcoming GPD Win Max 2 handheld console. A subsequent report suggested that a working prototype of the console would be ready by June 2022. Now, GPD has finally lifted the covers off the Win Max 2, highlighting its aesthetics and one important design change. GPD is also looking for alpha testers for the handheld. More details about the program can be found on the company's official Discord server.
Unlike its predecessors, which had exposed D-pads and face keys, the GPD Win Max 2 gives the users an option to cover them up with a piece of metal. One can then stow the cover away in a slot at the back, where it slides in magnetically. This will allow the GPD Win Max 2 to double up as a fully-functional laptop in environments where gaming peripherals could stick out.
A YouTube video on GPD's official channel confirms that the GPD WIn Max 2 will feature at least two USB Type-C ports, an HDMI port, and a USB Type-A port at the back. GPD also posted a teardown of the console, showcasing its user-replaceable M.2 SSD slot and an LTE modem. The variant highlighted above appears to be powered by an Intel Core i7-1260p; the AMD Ryzen 7 6800U version is slated to arrive next month, GPD adds.
