LavaLamp launched on Steam as a new free game on January 10, 2026. Shortly after its full release, this indie freebie has made it to the "New & Trending" list, with the current position being second in the charts.

Steam sees new free games every now and then, but while not all of them may seem worth trying, there are a few that deserve a shot. LavaLamp appears to be one of them, at least according to the current "New & Trending" chart on the platform.

Shortly after the full launch, this free game secured one of the topmost positions in the "New & Trending" list. More specifically, it currently holds the second spot, featuring over 180 player reviews, among which 94% are positive.

Fully released on January 10, 2026, LavaLamp sets players on an adventure within stylized, colorful worlds. The environment is best described as trippy, featuring psychedelic visuals, and the core gameplay experience mostly revolves around walking.

As players navigate through the bizarre yet abstract environments, they get to experience dynamic elements of this free Steam game. There's no complex combat or high-stakes challenges, but players can make light puzzle-like discoveries as they progress.

The ambient soundtrack of LavaLamp is also considered a strong highlight of this free game, and the breakfast themes make the storyline weird but interesting. However, it can fall short of expectations for its relatively short playtime, which can be around 60 minutes.

Another weak aspect of the free game is that it only sticks to basic walking and exploration mechanics. Nothing goes deep, and there are basically no challenges. Even so, making it to the second spot of the trending list is no easy feat, and there's proper support for controllers as well (EasySMX X15 curr. $27.99 on Amazon).
