FiiO DM13 marks Discman comeback with Bluetooth aptX HD and desktop mode
Having already launched a modernized cassette player onto the market in the form of the CP13, FiiO is now presenting a mobile CD player in the DM13. The new edition of the Discman comes in plain, rectangular housing with buttons for controlling playback and volume on the top and a segment display on the front that shows details about the song being played.
The FiiO DM13 is hardly bigger than a CD, but still offers a range of convenient features. In addition to the standard 3.5 mm headphone port, FiiO has also installed a balanced 4.4 mm port for hi-fi headphones. FiiO has not yet provided any details about the performance of the headphone amplifier or the built-in DAC. Alternatively, headphones can be connected via Bluetooth, with the FiiO CP13 supporting Qualcomm aptX and aptX HD in addition to SBC.

The integrated battery is said to provide a runtime of eight hours and is charged via USB-C. An interesting feature is the desktop mode, which bypasses the battery and provides power directly via a USB cable. In this mode, the FiiO DM13 can also be used as a stationary CD player, for example, to rip CDs to a computer. For self-burned CDs, the Discman supports FLAC, WAV, WMA, AAC and MP3.
Price and availability
The FiiO DM13 CD player is expected to be launched in September 2024 for a recommended retail price of $179. The Discman will be available in silver, blue, red, titanium and black, with only the silver variant available at launch and the other colors to follow by the end of the year.
