The Epic Games Store has returned with another free game giveaway. This time, the storefront has decided to offer a game playable on macOS and Windows, rather than just the latter as has often been the case in recent weeks. Specifically, Epic Games has discounted Fear the Spotlight, which Blumhouse Games describes as an atmospheric third-person horror for fans of adventure games.
Set within Sunnyside High, Fear the Spotlight plays like a classic 90s horror game thanks to its camera angles and tight level design. Likewise, the decision to adopt a low-resolution aesthetic with dithered shadows helps Fear the Spotlight resemble a PlayStation 1 generation Silent Hill or Resident Evil series games. With that being said, the game supports conventional twin joystick controls, whether that be an Xbox controller, a DualSense or popular third-party options like the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 (curr. $52.19 on Amazon).
The game can run on many systems, too. For instance, Fear the Spotlight should be playable on a Mac running macOS 11 or later, or a Windows 7 PC with 4 GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M or Nvidia GeForce GTX 700 series GPUs. Currently, Steam charges $19.99 for Fear the Spotlight, where it has achieved an Overwhelmingly Positive overall rating and a Very Positive rating from recent reviews. Meanwhile, Fear the Spotlight averages 80/100 on OpenCritic with an 87% critics recommendation and 74/100 from Metacritic averages. Fear the Spotlight will be available to claim from the Epic Games Store until 15:00 UTC on October 30.
