Entry-level Linux Zorin OS 17 now available for download
Those looking for a Linux distribution for their laptop or desktop PC may find what want in the Zorin OS 17. Although the Linux distribution does not offer support for the latest hardware, as it is still based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS from last year, it is a visually appealing and complete package for all newcomers and those returning to the Linux cosmos.
Better performance with ZorinOS 17
According to the developer, speed was the main focus for version 17 of the Linux distribution. The latest ZorinOS should "run significantly faster on a wide range of old and new hardware." In fact, numerous operating system components have been optimized, from the kernel to the desktop interface. For example, the developers have been able to lower the minimum requirements of Zorin OS to 1.5 GB of RAM. Previously, at least 2 GB of RAM was required.
Desktop interface contains several improvements
The Zorin OS desktop is based on Gnome, but is supplemented by numerous extensions and own additions from the Zorin team. There is now a universal search in the Zorin menu, similar to the Windows 10/11 start menu. Multitasking with various gestures is also possible and the 'Spatial Desktop' and 'Spatial Window Switcher' display the desktops and windows in a three-dimensional view.
Current open source and commercial software is available via the latest version of 'Gnome Software' via Flathub, the Linux equivalent of the Windows Store. Zorin OS 17 can be downloaded directly from the developer's website, where an installation guide is also available.
