Entertaining video shows tug of war between the Rivian R1T and the Ford F-150 Lightning
While the EV pioneer leader Tesla is still working on its highly anticipated Cybertruck, several other carmakers have already entered the extremely profitable segment of electric pickup trucks. Ford and the Irvine-based newcomer Rivian might be two of the most recognizable names in this market, and their two competing electric trucks have now faced off in an interesting duel.
Ironically, the corresponding video, which is also embedded below this article, was recently published by a Tesla-focused content creator on Twitter. It shows the aforementioned Ford F-150 Lightning competing against the Rivian R1T in a tug of war, which apparently took place on a green space somewhere in northern California. Apart from the slight size difference between these two electric trucks, the larger but also lighter Ford F-150 Lightning was equipped with efficient road tires, which are at a clear disadvantage on the slippery grass surface.
On the other side of the rope, the more off-road focused Rivian R1T was equipped with capable 20-inch all-terrain tires, and the resulting grip advantage helped the electric pickup truck to relatively easily overwhelm its rival in both tug-of-war attempts. Needless to say, the improvised test has no scientific significance whatsoever, but such illustrative comparisons may still sway undecided electric truck buyers in one or the other direction. In terms of price, the base Ford F-150 Lightning now starts at almost US$47,000 after a recent price increase, while the most affordable trim of the Rivian R1T costs about US$20,000 more.
