In a bid to simplify fuel monitoring, all Ecobee smart thermostats will now work with the cellular propane tank monitors from its parent company Generac. This new integration keeps home owners informed about their fuel usage and sends real-time alerts when the fuel tank or monitor is running out of juice.

Ecobee's thermostats might not be Matter-compatible just yet, but they have most, if not all, of the integrations that matter: HomeKit, Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings and IFTTT. Earlier this year, Ecobee announced that its thermostats will also integrate with standby generators from Generac. Now, Ecobee has a new thermostat integration with Generac propane tank monitors, marking the second collaboration with its parent company.

Generac's LP fuel monitors (currently $249.95 on Amazon) work with the Mobile Link app via LTE to provide users with information about their fuel consumption and send smartphone alerts when fuel levels are running low. Now, Ecobee thermostats take all this functionality into the smart home, helping cautious homeowners stay up-to-date about their fuel usage.

In a press release, Greg Fyke, President and CEO of Ecobee, said the thermostats should also alert homeowners when the monitor goes offline, so they aren't caught off guard by empty batteries.

The firm has wasted no time in bringing the new integration to all its supported thermostats – including the ecobee3, ecobee4 and its line of Smart Thermostats. Essentially, Ecobee thermostat released since 2014 is now compatible with the Generac propane fuel monitor, although users will have to subscribe to tank monitoring on Mobile Link.

Displaying propane fuel levels on top of temperature information, air-quality ratings, and myriad other details might seem overkill for a thermostat, although users can choose the notifications they receive on their thermostat. There's also the option to opt-out completely from within the Mobile Link app should you find them annoying. Neither Ecobee nor Generac is expecting that sort of reception however. According to Fyke, the new integration will provide homeowners with "added peace of mind" and "control over their smart home usage".
