The new Dynabook Protege X45W laptop is here, powered by AMD Ryzen 7 200 APUs. With up to 8 cores and 16 threads, the X45W 2-in-1 laptop should achieve admirable performance without costing a fortune.

Dynabook has introduced a brand-new AMD-powered laptop with a 14-inch display. Dubbed the Protege X45W, the 2-in-1 convertible is powered by AMD Ryzen 200 series APUs with acceptable multicore performance and capable iGPUs.

The Protege X45W laptop can be equipped with up to the AMD Ryzen 7 250 APU, featuring 8 cores and 16 threads. The APU is a member of the aging old Hawk Point family. Unsurprisingly, the Zen 4 cores have started showing their age, but should be capable enough in multicore performance. Lower-end variants with the Ryzen 5 220 and Ryzen 5 230 will also be available.

Synthetic benchmarks indicate that the Ryzen 7 250 sits somewhere between the Core Ultra 7 155H and Core Ultra 5 225H in multicore tests. In simpler terms, day-to-day workloads, and even some moderately intensive tasks should be perfectly doable on the system. There is no option for dedicated GPUs, and the Radeon 780M iGPU can only pull respectable frame rates in older titles at modest settings. Some lightweight video and photo work should also be possible.

The Protege X45W laptop sports a 14-inch 1920 x 1200 display with support for touch input. MPP 2.0 support is also present, with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. That said, Dynabook does not make any other claims regarding color reproduction or brightness performance.

Other notable features of the 2-in-1 laptop include spill-resistant backlit keyboard, MIL-STD-810H rating, FHD webcam, and an aluminum chassis which should feel quite premium. The laptop will ship with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage as standard, and further upgrades will be possible with BTO options.

I/O options have not been fully detailed, but we do know that the laptop will feature WiFi 7, Bluetooth, gigabit Ethernet, and a selection of HDMI, USB-C, USB-A, and microSD ports.

Pricing and availability details are unclear as of this writing. For reference, the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen7 business laptop features similar specifications, and is currently available for $899 on Amazon. The Dynabook Protege X45W might also be priced in the same ballpark.
