This Skylake-powered Windows 10 2-in-1 convertible tablet can be acquired directly from Dell, starting at $999.99 USD.

Fanless portables are getting more powerful with each day and the latest Dell XPS 12 is a solid proof of this statement. Dell XPS 12 is, in fact, a convertible 12.5-inch fanless tablet that comes together with a keyboard dock so both can turn into a 2.8-pound compact notebook.

Dell introduced the new XPS 12 last month, and now it can be already acquired directly from the company's website. There are two configurations currently up for sale:

  • Intel Core M5-6Y54 processor, full HD display, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD - $999.99 USD
  • Intel Core M5-6Y54 processor, 4k Ultra HD display, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD - $1,299.99 USD

For $50 USD more, each of these models can be purchased together with Dell's USB Type-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 adapter. Additional features of both configurations mentioned above include WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.1, 5 MP/8 MP front/back camera, two Thunderbolt 3 ports. The keyboard dock has backlit keys and a glass touchpad.

Dell will add to the list of accessories available for this convertible an ergonomic active stylus "soon" as well. Its price has not been unveiled yet.

Although I have been writing about new software and hardware for almost a decade, I consider myself to be old school. I always enjoy listening to music on CD or tape instead of digital files and I will not even get into the touchscreen vs physical keys debate. However, I also enjoy new technology, as I now have the chance to take a look at the future every day. I joined the Notebookcheck crew back in 2013 and I have no plans to leave the ship anytime soon.
