The NucDeck DIY gaming handheld has made great progress throughout the past six months. At this point, the project is close to being completed, with Daniel McKenzie, the person behind the project, sharing the full list of design files, parts, and assembly guidelines

While the market already has many gaming handhelds, not all of them are customizable. And even though there are some with a few customization features, you still can't change the device by a whole lot. Well, that's basically where the NucDeck steps in.

At the core, NucDeck is a DIY gaming handheld that's designed around a 4x4 NUC mainboard. It is housed inside a 3D-printed case, which can also hold a 7-inch LCD screen with a capacitive touch panel. And like any standard gaming handheld, such as Steam Deck (512 GB model curr. US$688.99 on Amazon), it has a set of controllers and a rechargeable battery.

But what's really interesting about the NucDeck project is that you can choose this gaming handheld's key components. As it can house a 4x4 NUC mainboard, you can use a third-party 4x4 motherboard because they're similar. It also leaves the door open for you to choose the processor you want.

That said, at the current stage, the NucDeck is very close to being complete. Daniel McKenzie, the brains behind the project, has posted the parts list, assembly instructions, and design files of the project. They are all available on a GitHub repository found in this link. Anyone can use this resource to build their own DIY gaming handheld.

However, there are still some missing software features. They are still in development, and as McKenzie already has the rest of the resources, these features should come out soon.
