Cybertruck tows diesel generator for charging as farmer uses its battery to weld
Set to prove that Tesla's Cybertruck can be as dirty and hardworking as any regular gas-powered pickup truck on a ranch, the celebrity farmers from the Smiths family have posted a number of intriguing stunts.
One of them shows the Cybertruck towing a diesel generator behind it, which should have been a sight to behold with the generator huffing and puffing while charging the Cybertruck on a dusty rural road.
Mr. Smith doesn't seem to baby the Cybertruck much, and the dirty bed along with all the storage compartments have been loaded with all sorts of tools and working equipment.
These include a commercial welder and plasma cutter, but even with them, and a lot of other tools placed everywhere, the rancher claims he has more bed space left than on his previous truck.
That's explicable given the extra frunk space, but he says one of the reasons he got the Cybertruck was also the presence of 2x110V and 1x240V outlet in the truck bed near the tailgate.
Smith then goes on to demonstrate a welding job running from the Cybertruck's outlet by fixing a leak from a rusty old pipe. The Cybertruck was easily able to provide power to the 50A welding machine and cutter, as can be expected from its large 123 kWh battery pack.
His quick calculations return just 9.6 kWh of power consumption for an hour of welding, which, in any case, is a rather unlikely scenario.
In another stunt, the Cybertruck gets stuck in a heavily irrigated, muddy field, presumably because Smith forgot to turn the traction control off, and gets pulled out by a hulking Ford pickup.
Tesla is trying to position the Cybertruck as a work pickup rather than just a celebrity toy to dress in pretty wrappings, so scenes with the truck working on a farm would only contribute to its target marketing.
It also recently released a promo video demonstrating the abilities of the Cybertruck's Off-road mode, trying to attract the attention of off-road aficionados with stunts at iconic places like Hell's Gate.
