Coolpad Note 5 review: Another phone where battery is the focus
Source: The Indian Express English Archive.org version
Coolpad Note 5 does have quite a few points going for it like design, display, and battery. But the brand faces competition from rivals such as Xiaomi and Lenovo. Given Coolpad as a brand, isn’t as popular, it will have a tough time convincing users that it is worthy of the price tag.

75% Coolpad Note 5 review: A valiant effort, but not enough to topple competition
Source: Tech2.in.com English Archive.org version
The smartphone gets a lot right and some wrong. I was happy with the performance even though it wasn’t as good in the benchmark result. Battery life, the build quality and even the display has been done right. The UI was a bit of an overload, but it still runs smooth. The camera was probably a big disappointment as the quality did not match my expectations.

While the Coolpad Note 5 may have more RAM than its peers, it does seem to utilise it properly. In performance, it is soundly beaten by the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the LeEco Le 2. The best aspect of the phone is its battery life. But even then, the Redmi Note 3 and the Redmi 3S Prime can offer the same battery life. I find it very hard to recommend the Coolpad Note 5 over those other phones because of its sub-par display and comparatively weaker performance.

Definitely the Coolpad Note5 has a lot of impressive features such as fast performance, long lasting battery backup and dual applications. The smartphone is a good choice, but compared to Redmi Note 3 and Le eco Le 2 the Coolpad Note 5 needs a little twitch in built and camera performance to win economic smartphones battle.

As a budget smartphone, Coolpad ticks nearly all the right boxes. Be it the pleasing design, vibrant display or the lasting battery, Coolpad's newest offering left us impressed. The only downer we could find was the phone getting a little hot during gaming, but that's not a deal breaker.

Coolpad Note 5 Review - Just everything is right about it
Source: The Mobile Indian English Archive.org version
Currently, the sub-Rs 12,000 segment is being dominated by the likes of Le 2, Redmi Note 3, Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus and Moto G4. But this new handset might change the dynamics of the segment atleast for sometime. In terms of specs, it looks bit better than its competitors with 4 GB RAM while others have 3 GB or 2 GB RAM. The Coolpad Note 5 has infact very few cons and its pros are far too many. So in our view, if you are looking for a sub-Rs 11,000 phone, then you should keep the Coolpad Note 5 in your shortlist.

Coolpad Note 5 Review – A Fully loaded phone
Source: Gadget Diary English Archive.org version
Coolpad is one of the known and best smartphone player in sub 15k INR category in India. With Coolpad Note 5 they have again proved that they are serious about bringing best devices at affordable prices. The phone brings some surprisingly good specifications and offers tough competition to phones like Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. It is a very good buy at a price tag of Rs. 10,999 and personally I think if you want a device with a great camera, good performance, and impressive battery life then Coolpad Note 5 can be a good choice.

Coolpad Note 3S

Coolpad released the Note 3S along with its sibling, the Mega 3. Its price is similar to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (both are also correspondingly named for some reason). It is a straightforward smartphone yet not lacking on essential features, which makes it a device to look out for. Its low price factor does not point to an inferior assembly; in fact it will certainly appeal those going for a bang on a buck. On the style front, the Note 3S is coated with on the front and back sides with 2.5D glass. It is also built on an aluminium alloy chassis. These features are said to provide the Note S3 with added strength and robustness. Its body is curvaceous on its corners as is common on Oppo models. The dimensions of the Note 3S measure at 154.50 x 77.00 x 8.60 mm and it weighs 167g. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 415 octa-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz and 3 GB of RAM. This combination allows for graphic intensive games, multiple apps, and multitasking without any hassle.

The available storage is 32 GB and the storage capacity can be expanded by up to 32 GB (which is arguably more limited than other similar smartphone models). Its 5.5-inch IPS display features a 720p resolution. This is where the Coolpad Note 3S loses badly to the Redmi Note 3. The Redmi Note 3 offers a 5.5-inch Full HD display. In addition, the Coolpad Note 3S comes with a fingerprint sensor, which enables easy and fast locking and unlocking as well as customization of gestures for faster connectivity and networking. For the shutterbugs, this smartphone is equipped with a 13 MP rear facing camera and 5 MP front facing snapper. Both cameras feature f2.2 lens. Being a budget phone, certainly, nothing much can be expected from its cameras. The Note 3S supports dual SIM mode and is also VolTE enabled. One would wonder why Coolpad opts not to equip the Note 3S with three SIM slots as it does on the Mega 3.

The Coolpad Note 3S runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Cool UI 8.0. Connectivity includes both Bluetooth and WiFi. Again compared to its sibling, it comes with a less powerful 2500mAh battery. It comes in two colour variants i.e. gold and white and they both look good. The Coolpad Note 3S may not be packed with mind-blowing features yet it has scored highly on all fronts and is an option of a well packaged smartphone on a budget. After all, not every user needs a smartphone for gaming and serious multitasking.

It’s interesting to note that the main differences between this model and the now-discontinued Note 3 and Note 3 Plus are all on the outside. In some ways, such as screen resolution, microSD card support and battery capacity, this phone is actually a step backwards from the Note 3 Plus – which even cost Rs. 1,000 less at launch. Either Coolpad has decided to prioritise looks over features with the Rs. 9,999 Note 3S, or inflation has taken a bite out of its spec sheets.

The Coolpad Note 3S comes at a time when it faces a lot of competition, both externally and within the Coolpad family too. Then there are the phones like the Lenovo K6 Power and the Moto G Turbo, both of which are formidable devices with prices very close to that of the Coolpad Note 3S.

We'll say that there are a few good aspects and a few not-so-good things about the smartphone, We liked the build quality and design and found the performance to be mostly smooth. However, heating issues (during navigation) and bad battery life are downers. But at a price of Rs 8,199, you can't expect a smartphone to be flawless. We would suggest spending some more money and buying Coolpad Note 5 instead, however, if you are too tight on budget then Coolpad Note 5 Lite is not a bad option either.

Coolpad Note 5 Lite does hit most of the good points, however, it will surely have a tough time at this price with the likes of Redmi 3S Prime sitting in the same category. The Coolpad Note 6 seems like it's lagging behind its rivals. But being an offline only offering, the Note 6 will be more readily available than most of the critically-acclaimed mid-range phones. That seems like a conscious decision on the part of Coolpad as the brand remains popular in the tier 2 and tier 3 cities where online shopping is still a novelty. But even being an offline-only brand isn’t enough to escape the clutches of the intense competition that the mid-range market is seeing. Most of the online-dominating brands are rapidly expanding in the offline market include Xiaomi, Honor and Moto and Coolpad might have a hard time competing with them with the Note 6.

As we mentioned earlier, the segment which Coolpad Note 6 competes is terribly competitive. For a smartphone to succeed, it needs to have an edge over the competition. While the Coolpad Note 6 is a phone that might just appeal to users who want a basic smartphone. The battery life is certainly a high point but if you take into account the design and performance, you might see yourself moving on to other smartphones. Perhaps the idea was to offer a differentiator – dual front cameras -- in this segment but that also isn’t great by any standards. The Coolpad Note is just another budget smartphone offering which might just click with an average user who isn’t looking for too many details like stylish design, great performance or a very good camera.

The Coolpad Note 6 has a few strengths. It’s built well, looks presentable, and has good battery life. The Snapdragon 435 isn’t the most appealing SoC at this price, but it’s competent enough to handle the usual messaging apps and that odd game or two. The offline availability of this phone will be a big draw for many people who still prefer to try before they buy. Do keep in mind that the cameras are pretty mediocre and the display is relatively dull. Also, while the older version of Android doesn't really lack in essential features, Coolpad needs to rectify the outdated security.

It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.

66.94%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
