The Coolpad Note 5 Lite is hard to recommend over its competition. While the device does look good, and is decently built, it lags behind the competition in terms of performance. If you are looking for a compact budget smartphone, pay a bit more and get yourself the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime or the Lenovo K6 Power.

The Coolpad Note 5 Lite is in a war zone right now. It is priced in a segment that sees new entrants every other week. Expectations are high, and this phone does look good compared to what some bigger brands sell. However, there is still competition from other Chinese companies, most notably the Xiaomi Redmi 3s which is a very strong contender.

The Coolpad Note 5 Lite is a smartphone characterised by its looks and design prowess. Design wise, it is one of the best smartphones in its price range. The glass and metal construction lend an extremely classy and elegant look to the device. Beyond doubt, the smartphone can easily be mistaken for a device several segments up the price ladder.

We'll say that there are a few good aspects and a few not-so-good things about the smartphone, We liked the build quality and design and found the performance to be mostly smooth. However, heating issues (during navigation) and bad battery life are downers. But at a price of Rs 8,199, you can't expect a smartphone to be flawless. We would suggest spending some more money and buying Coolpad Note 5 instead, however, if you are too tight on budget then Coolpad Note 5 Lite is not a bad option either.

Coolpad Note 5 Lite runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Cool UI 8.0 on top. This is the same Cool UI we have seen on the Coolpad Note 5. Cool UI has several features such as shaking phone changes wallpaper, take scrolling screenshots, record screen activity, lock apps using fingerprint scanner, a built-in ad block.

In India, the Coolpad Note 5 Lite will retail for 8,199 INR on Amazon.in, and based on our experience with the device so far, that looks like a very reasonable price for the value you are getting, especially if you are looking for an easily manageable, compact smartphone.

Coolpad Note 5 Lite does hit most of the good points, however, it will surely have a tough time at this price with the likes of Redmi 3S Prime sitting in the same category. Coolpad has had a mixed response with some of the recent devices though the Note 5 Lite is surely a step forward. As a first cut verdict, the Note 5 Lite could have been better in terms of battery and the chipset front and we hope to be proved wrong when we come out with our detailed review.
