We've been hearing about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888-powered Realme Race ever since the SoC was unveiled in December 2020. Realme has been fairly tight-lipped about the device ever since. A report speculated that the devices would be a part of Realme's new GT lines of flagship smartphones. A company executive called Xu Qi Chase has now confirmed the rumour on Weibo (via @Stufflistings on Twitter). The teaser shows us a car with the GT branding on it.
A leak from last month (January 2021) told us that the Realme Race Pro/ Realme GT will feature an industry-first 160Hz AMOLED screen and a battery that supports fast charging at 125W. However, the aforementioned specifications could be reserved for a 'special' car-themed Realme GT/Realme Race Pro variant. The vanilla Realme Race could pack more modest hardware, closer to that of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro.
There is no concrete information about the Realme Race/Realme GT release date just yet. We can expect Realme to unveil it around when Xiaomi launches the Mi 11 Pro to steal some of its thunder. It shouldn't be long, considering that the smartphone has already been greenlit by China's telecom regulatory authority TENAA.
