As of June 24, Citizen has officially announced the AQ4100-65M, a limited-edition Eco-Drive watch set to be released in July 2025. This launch will commemorate the 30th anniversary of "The Citizen" line, and the model comes with a deep indigo washi paper dial, lightweight 'Super Titanium' case, and a movement accurate to ±5 seconds per year.
The 38.3 mm case and bracelet are made from Citizen’s proprietary Super Titanium, treated with a Duratect Platinum coating to resist scratches with a polished silver tone. The watch is rated to 10 ATM water resistance and features a dual-sphere sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.
The most striking detail here is undoubtedly the dial. Citizen uses hand-dyed Tosa washi paper, made through a traditional lye fermentation technique using indigo leaves, which are applied in multiple layers. The resulting deep blue color - called kachi-iro or "victory color" - was once used on samurai armor and subtly shifts its look depending on lighting conditions. As with other "The Citizen" watches, this model also features the eagle motif engraved on the crown, dial, and caseback.
Inside, the watch uses Caliber A060, one of Citizen’s top high-accuracy quartz movements. It supports a perpetual calendar, power reserve indicator, and independently adjustable hour hand. The Eco-Drive movement can run up to 18 months on a full charge with the power-save function on. Additional protection comes via automatic hand correction and magnetic resistance rated to JIS Type 1 (up to 4,800 A/m).
Citizen has limited the AQ4100-65M to just 550 units worldwide, with a projected retail price of $3,200 USD. This puts it on par with previous high-end Eco-Drive models like the AQ4091-56M, but with more traditional Japanese design influences.
