Cillian Murphy-starring '28 Years Later' Hollywood movie shot with iPhone 15 Pro Max as main camera
Apple's flagship iPhones have long been touted as excellent videography systems by consumers and critics alike. In DxOMark's recent evaluation, the iPhone 16 Pro Max topped the charts in videography performance and was dubbed the best video camera solution found in any smartphone.
Interestingly, a recent report by WIRED reveals that the successor to the critically acclaimed '28 Weeks Later' movie, titled '28 Years Later', which is expected to hit theatres next year, was shot using the iPhone 15 Pro Max as the principal camera, along with additional equipment and attachments.
The iPhone has been used to shoot high-production events in the past, such as Apple's own 'Scary Fast' Mac event hosted in October of last year. However, the fact that a full-fledged Hollywood movie is being filmed solely with an iPhone 15 Pro Max is a massive win for the iPhone.
However, the original '28 Days Later' film released in 2002 was also shot with portable camcorders and not cinema cameras, owing to time and space constraints. Perhaps, the upcoming third installment of the film series being shot on yet another portable camera, this time an iPhone, is a fitting tribute to the original film.
Oscar-winner Danny Boyle-directed '28 Years Later' movie is scheduled for release on June 20, 2025. Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy is expected to make his return to the franchise, while Anthony Dod Mantle, also an Oscar winner, will be responsible for the film's cinematography.
