Casio unveils new compact, lightweight digital watches in two colorways
Casio's new BG-169GD borrows its look from 1990s and 2000s rock, not from anything currently on trend. You get faded grayish gradients, a matte bezel and band, and a deliberately worn-in look instead of anything glossy or bright. It's a theme applied to hardware that's been around for a while: the BG-169's compact round case and front crown protector. Baby-G has used this shape since the line's earliest years, and it has stayed largely unchanged and now dressed differently.
Two new colorways are listed on Casio Japan. BG-169GD-1JF is full black-on-black; BG-169GD-7JF takes the opposite route with off-white, with a soft pink-tinted display visible in Casio's product photos. Both are priced at ¥12,650 (~$80) and share an identical spec sheet: a 45.9 x 42.6 x 16.4 mm resin case, 43 grams, 200 meters of water resistance, and roughly three years of battery life.
Function-wise, nothing here breaks from what buyers would expect. World time covers 30 cities across 29 zones with daylight saving toggling, the stopwatch runs 1/100-second splits over 24 hours, and there's a five-alarm setup plus an oddly specific day-counter tool — set a title, a target date, and the watch counts down (or up) the days to it, with a separate "month and day" matching notification and room for 25 saved phone numbers alongside it. Average accuracy sits at ±30 seconds a month, on the loose side even for Casio's budget tier, though that's been standard for this case size for years.
