BricBloc: Modular charger doubles as docking station and M.2 enclosure

We've previously reported on various chargers and docking stations. The BricBloc is a modular hub that can be adapted to individual requirements, with some obvious limitations. By itself, it's a more or less conventional GaN charger that can provide up to 67 watts via a USB Type-C port, but the gadget can also be used as a docking station. In this configuration, it offers HDMI 2.0 for displaying 4K60 content, as well as a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port that can output up to 5 watts.

Both USB Type-C ports support data speeds of up to 10 Gbps, but only one has the full feature set of the USB Type-C protocol and a charging power of 62 watts. Another module provides space for an M.2 2230 SSD. This SSD module also comes with a USB Type-C port with a maximum output of 62 watts and up to 10 Gbps of bandwidth. The three modules can be stacked on top of each other, but they can also be used independently, which should make the BricBloc even more flexible.

The device is currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo. The Essential Kit consists of the GaN charger plus hub and is currently offered for $89. Alternatively, the Complete Kit comes with a 512GB SSD and costs $159. The usual financial risks associated with crowdfunding campaigns apply. The BricBloc is expected to ship in September.
