The BlackBerry Priv is now available for pre-order on Amazon in certain European regions for 800 Euros. Like many other BlackBerry devices, the Priv is mainly aimed at businesses and professionals with its built-in security features. Its "DTEK" software allows for better user controls over microphones, cameras, GPS, and other personal information that may otherwise be automatically downloaded through other apps. Its unique selling point will be the slide-out physical keyboard below the display in much the same manner as the Palm Pre. The BlackBerry Passport keyboard also has an additional touch function for scrolling.
Core specifications for the Priv include:
- 5.4-inch dual-curve display
- 2560 x 1440 resolution
- Hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC
- 3 GB RAM
- 18 MP rear camera w/ dual Flash
- 32 GB eMMC w/ MicroSD support up to 2 TB
- 3410 mAh battery
The dual-curve display will be similar in shape to the one on the Galaxy S6 Edge while the Snapdragon 808 SoC will provide performance similar to the LG G4. BlackBerry promises up to 25 hours of power from a full charge.
The high price of 800 Euros is no longer unusual for flagship smartphones. The 32 GB Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium currently retail for 700 Euros and 800 Euros, respectively. The 16 GB iPhone 6s Plus is even more expensive at 850 Euros.
