The new BMW software also lets AT&T customers in the US use a Personal eSIM, building into your existing contract and enabling 5G in the vehicle. The cellular connectivity allows you to make calls and stream data without needing a smartphone in the car. Another feature in the update, specifically for the iX, is the ability to stop charging and unlock the charging cable in the app.
The latest software is on offer to those with the BMW iDrive Operating System 7 and 8, which the company estimates to be around 4.7 million vehicles. The free upgrade is already available to over 30 models and can be downloaded in the vehicle’s settings menu under Remote Software Upgrade.
