Chinese PC maker BMax will be launching its latest affordable 2-in-1 convertible on November 11 for just under $500 USD. The BMax Y14 Pro is notable for its sleek and attractive narrow-bezel aluminum design that could easily pass as a laptop worth twice the asking price.
Core features of the Y14 Pro include:
- 14 nm Intel Core m7-6Y75 CPU
- HD Graphics 515 GPU
- 14.1-inch FHD IPS 10-point capacitive touchscreen
- 4 mm display bezels
- Keyboard backlight
- 8 GB RAM
- 256 GB SSD (with M.2 2280 expansion slot)
- USB-C, MicroSD, 3.5 mm headset, AC adapter port
- Quad speakers
- Wi-Fi 5
- 12 mm thick
- 2.9 lbs
The main drawback to the convertible is its very slow Core m7-6Y75 CPU that's slower than even a cheap Core i3 laptop. Nonetheless, the passively-cooled processor allows for both thinner and lighter chassis designs and a noiseless user experience.
Another drawback to keep in mind is its limited port selection of just one USB-C port. You're going to want to carry adapters with you for connecting additional accessories.
The BMax Y14 Pro competes with other passively-cooled convertibles or laptops like the Asus ZenBook UX305, HP EliteBook 1030 G1, or Lenovo ThinkPad X1 tablet. Expect a full review on the system in the weeks to come.
