BLOCKS is a company with a short history that was founded back in 2014. However, it did not take them long to have the first prototypes of the Core modular smartwatch ready and, thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over US$1.5 million, this wearable is now finally ready to reach everyone.
The BLOCKS Core is present at CES 2018 with the full version of Android 8.0 Oreo onboard and support for Android Alexa voice commands. Those interested can simply get the smartwatch without any module for US$259, but that would ruin the entire experience. The price of a module is US$35 and there are six of them currently available: environmental sensor (temperature, air pressure, humidity), heart rate monitor, LED (flashlight with strobe lighting and notifications), smart button (for launching apps), GPS (with GLONASS support), extra battery (25% additional autonomy).
In addition to the modules already available, more are expected to come in the future. According to the Kickstarter page, the list of upcoming modules includes a fingerprint reader, a camera, a flash memory module, a stress levels module, and more.
The BLOCKS Core can be customized with a silver or black body and a black or red strap. In addition to the price of the watch and the modules chosen, the buyer also has to pay for shipping: US$11 for the United States and US$15 for the rest of the world. Sadly, it seems that this modular smartwatch is not ready to hit its buyers yet since the official store page only mentions Q1 2018 as the shipping date. For now, those interested can still find it at CES 2018, or they can simply enjoy the videos below.
