80% Asus ZenBook Duo UX481F review – Inspiring Glimpse of the Future
Source: Hitech Century English Archive.org version
This midrange variant of the Zenbook Duo UX481F ultraportable is ahead of its time with an innovative secondary ScreenPad Plus setup that takes multitasking to the next level. It’s an interesting proposition but ergonomics issues befuddle its execution. If you can live with its hefty price tag and quirks, this represents a unique gamechanger.

So did we find any use for the secondary screen? Actually, we did. We used it for reference material as we were typing, and found it quite convenient. We liked having a Windows Explorer window open and handy all the time. Over time, we could easily see ourselves leaving our email and messaging apps open on the ScreenPad for quick updates while we get work done on the main screen. We hope that if this concept catches on, software makers will start designing apps that specifically take advantage of a second screen in this position.

80% ASUS ZenBook Duo UX481 review: Can dual displays work in a smaller package?
Source: Hardware Zone English Archive.org version
Overall, the ZenBook Duo is something of a flawed genius. The packaging is clever, the performance and build quality are good, and the pricing is attractive. However, it does have some serious shortcomings that can be a dealbreaker for some people ― namely the less than ideal keyboard and trackpad positioning and layout. But if you can overlook these shortcomings, the ZenBook Duo represents good value for money and its dual displays are genuinely helpful.

75% Asus ZenBook Duo UX481FL review (Core i7, Nvidia MX250) – the dual-screen ultrabook
Source: Ultrabook Review English Archive.org version
The ZenBook Duo UX481FL is a mixed bag. One one hand you're drawn in by the dual-screen form factor, but its major selling points are actually the large battery, the smooth performance and thermals, the good quality panels and the capable speakers. On the other, ergonomics suffer with this kind of design, so the notebook is both thicker and heavier than other options, but also difficult to use anywhere but on a desk, as well as fairly expensive for what it is.

I just have to say – I love the entire idea of a strip of screen like the ScreenPad Plus. It’s functional and applicable for a variety of different use case scenarios. It’s great to have companies creating a product like this – it’s different, but not too different.

If you're still keen on getting the ASUS ZenBook Duo for slightly heavier workloads such as video editing, you might want to consider getting the i7 variant instead which is priced at RM5699. If money is no object, why not get the ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo which comes equipped with up to a 9th generation i9 processor, Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics card as well as up to 1TB of primary storage starting from the price of RM12999.

60% Asus Zenbook Duo UX481 review: Innovation that comes at a cost
Source: It Pro English Archive.org version
Asus has pushed boundaries with the UX481, and there are areas where this machine succeeds. The primary screen offers good quality for sRGB work, and the lower panel is useful for secondary apps. The Asus has smart looks, solid performance and superb battery life. In key areas, though, the daring design means uncomfortable compromise. The cramped keyboard and trackpad can’t compare to Dell and Apple’s offerings, and the Asus is thicker and heavier than rivals. If you’re going to use the secondary screen, then you may be able to accept these issues. If it’s not going to be integral to your work, though, conventional laptops remain better.

The ZenBook Duo is a solid attempt at delivering a dual-screen ultraportable. Using both screens is intuitive, and it can be genuinely practical for multitasking. 70% Asus Zenbook Duo Review: Two Screens, Too Many Compromises
Source: The Verge English Archive.org version
But if you’re looking specifically for a two-screen device, this one works. It’s more than a party trick; it’s useful and there are cool things you can do. But I think the form factor is better suited to a workstation (like the ZenBook Pro Duo) which is likely to spend most of its life at a desk with peripherals plugged in. I’m not sure if there’s a way to make a Duo that’s also good at being a portable laptop. If there is, Asus hasn’t quite found it.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.

Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.

Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.

Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.

NVIDIA GeForce MX250: Successor of the MX150 and still based on the same Pascal GP108 chip (similar to the desktop GT 1030) but with higher clock speeds. Available in two versions, a normal 25 Watt version and a low power version with 10 Watt TDP and reduced performance. The 25 Watt version e.g. offers a 21% higher boost clock than the old MX150 leading to a 5% performance gain.

Intel HD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2) found on some Kaby-Lake CPU models (15 W ULV series).

Intel Comet Lake:

i5-10210U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced in 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.6 and 4.2 GHz (all 4 cores 3.9 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports LPDDR4-2933 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default). Compared to the faster i5-10510U, the level 3 cache was reduced from 8 to 6 MB.

i7-10510U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced on 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.8 and 4.9 GHz (all 4 cores 4.3 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). 14.00:

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.

In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

76.98%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
