Reviews for the Asus W7J
Source: CNet

With its 13.3-inch wide-screen display, Core 2 Duo processor, built-in Web cam, and matte-black finish, the Asus W7J is surprisingly reminiscent of Apple's popular MacBook. Unlike the MacBook, the W7J features discrete graphics, which is a nice plus, but it's hurt by poor battery life. At $1,499, the fixed-configuration Asus W7J isn't any cheaper than the MacBook or the similarly configured yet slightly larger HP Compaq Presario V6000T. While its size, weight, and specs are appealing, the Asus W7J's battery life will be a deal breaker for most.

Asus is certainly becoming a major brand in North American markets. Their notebooks combine build quality, looks, and performance at a reasonable price. The W7j is no exception, the screen is one of the brightest and sharpest I've ever seen on a notebook and the build is solid. While the NVIDIA Go7400 is not the best video card out there, you will not find a better video card on any notebook that is 13.3" and smaller, in fact as of the time of this review, there is only the Sony SZ and Dell XPS M1210 who can be considered as direct competitors. In addition, the W7j is affordably priced.

The ASUS W7J presents itself as an all-around excellent value for the price. It’s heavy on features and power without compromising on weight, size, or style. You get a speedy processor, plenty of storage and RAM, and even a built-in webcam for taking snapshots. The gorgeous and vibrant 13.3” widescreen combined with the powerful nVidia Go video graphics card makes this laptop more than your standard run-of-the-mill workhorse, allowing you to view DVD movies or play a couple 3D-intensive games the way they were meant to be experienced (well, almost). Whether you’re using the laptop solely for work or for leisure use, the ASUS is a very versatile laptop that has everything you need to do both.

The moderately priced Asus W7J offers a powerful dual-core engine, discrete Nvidia graphics, and dual-layer DVD burning in a stylish, portable package. Unfortunately, you'll need to spend $1634 if you plan to do spend much time away from an outlet. The W7J is encased in a smooth, black body with subtle silver highlights that accentuate the 12.4 x 8.9 x 1.1-inch frame. Weighing in at a light 4.2 pounds, the W7J won't bog you down on the daily commute. The notebook features a good-looking 13.3-inch widescreen with 1280 x 800 resolution. Asus Color Shine technology minimizes screen glare, which makes watching movies from a variety of angles enjoyable. The screen displays rich colors and doesn't suffer from heavy reflections.

For serious PC and laptop enthusiasts, this laptop may not interest you too much because of the lack of upgradability, middle of the road game performance, and small speakers. But at the end of the day, I wish the Asus W7J was my own laptop. Why? For someone like me who uses a laptop for serious work, the W7J was an absolute joy to take around. Two big features stand out for me from a business pespective: portability, and superb user experience. Weighing just 5 lbs. and packing a lot of performance is important for a business user, especially when you're trucking around town (or the country) and you need to whip up some Power Point or do some image editing.

Asus has earned a reputation for producing some of the best notebooks available. Companies like IBM, Apple, Dell, have all one time or another trusted Asus to manufacture their notebooks. Crammed into this little machine is a lot of value. You get a speedy processor and plentiful amounts of memory. The screen is bright enough to give you a radiation tan. Discrete graphics permit you to play something other than Solitaire all day at work. If you're having a mid-life crisis, fire up the webcam and make some new friends online. How can you put a price tag on that? For $1499, that's a bargain.

NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400: The NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 the competitor to the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. Caution there are some versions with reduced momry bus available.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Core Duo: Double Core processor with a very good relation of performance to current consumption. The 2 MB L2 Cache are used together by the double. The maximum capacity of 31 watts is only 4 watts more than with the Pentium M (predecessor). Both cores are lowered automatically and independently of each other by speed steps down to 1 GHz. In addition it now supports also SSE3 instructions. At least it is just as fast as a equivalent Pentium M. With applications, which were designed for multi-processors, the performance can be nearly twice as fast as with the Pentium M (e.g. CineBench around 86% fast)

Above all, this display size is used for subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles. For all three types, this size is quite large. The biggest variety of subnotebooks is represented with this size.
Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.2 kg:
This weight is typical for very old and big tablets, subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles with a 11-13 inch display-diagonal; nowadays, rather typical for 15 inch laptops.
Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, a Taiwanese multinational company, produces motherboards, graphics cards, optical drives, PDAs, computer monitors, notebook computers, servers, networking products, mobile phones, computer cases, computer components, and computer cooling systems. The company's 2007 revenues reached US$6.9 billion. ASUS also produces components for other manufacturers. The Eee PC initiated the netbook boom in 2008.
In the notebook sector, Asus had a global market share of about 11% from 2014-2016, making it the fourth largest laptop manufacturer. In the smartphone sector, Asus is not among the Top 5 and has only a small market share (as of 2016).
79.63%: This rating is not convincing. The laptop is evaluated below average, this is not really a recommendation for purchase.
