80% Review: ASUS Transformer AiO P1801
Source: Techtree.com English Archive.org version
The ASUS AiO P1801 is a unique and stylish computing gadget with excellent performance in Windows 8 as well as Android. It is unique because there is none other of its kind to pose a challenge. It works as an excellent desktop PC, thanks to its powerful 3rd generation Intel Core i5 quad-core CPU and NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M discrete graphics card, while the Android tablet is also speedy with the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor. The beauty of this device is that you can use it as a Windows 8 PC with the touchscreen tablet, and you can simply unplug the tablet while it is still switched on and opt to either use it with Android or with Windows 8 streaming over Wi-Fi, thus giving you excellent mobility inside you house or office. The TV tuner adds to its entertainment value, but ASUS should have incorporated a Blu-ray drive instead of the stale DVD writer to really drive the point home.

This particular variant of the Asus Transformer AiO powered by Intel Core i3 processor is priced at Rs 86,999. A Core i5 variant is also available, which is priced at Rs 92,999. The Transformer AiO is a great concept, but it’s a bit too large. It would have been nice if the display was a 12-inch tablet and the PC Station was one-third the size with the same configuration. In that case, the tablet would have made more sense as a portable device. For the price of this all-in-one PC, you would be better off with an iPad or an Android tablet and a regular all-in-one PC.

Asus Transformer P1801-B068K

Touch is becoming a highly desirable in any device, and most leading brands have their touch screen all-in-one offerings out there in various different permutations. With their usual enthusiasm for finding new solutions Asus has decided that what every home needs is a giant 18.4 inch Android tablet that can dock into a desktop PC-like configuration and run Windows 8. If that sounds confusing, then that’s one of the major drawbacks of the Asus Transformer P1801-B068K. The 18.4 inch tablet is not only big, but it is also heavy with 2.5 kg without the docking station. Once docked, the entire configuration weighs in at 6.5 kg, making it one of the heavier desktop replacements out there.

There is plenty to like about this device. The touch experience is fluid and completely problem free. Unlike most touch enabled laptops, you get all the benefits and all the apps of the touch friendly world of Android AND you also get a full Windows 8 experience when the tablet is docked. There is an option to run Windows 8 with the included remote desktop software when the tablet is not docked, but it is frustratingly slow. The solution essentially consists of two devices, and it is possible to buy a dedicated monitor for the docking station to use it only as a desktop PC and maintain the tablet as a heavy portable device for entertainment use around the house. The Asus Transformer P1801-B068K provides a delightful look into the possibilities of all-in-one desktop and portable devices of the near future, with unique features that make it difficult to compare to other devices and this is what makes the device attractive.

60% ASUS AiO Transformer P1801 Review
Source: Think Digit English Archive.org version
The PC market is in a very confused state right now, everyone says the market is dying, tablets are gaining in popularity at an alarming rate and smartphones are the norm. ASUS seems to have taken that confusion to heart when they came out with this AIO Transformer. It's a very confused device and while it might have a very specific use-case, it doesn't seem to make much sense, practically speaking. Should you spend your hard-earned cash on it? Maybe not. Read on to find out why.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.

Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.

Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.

Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

78.71%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
