With the TUF A17, the series was revised last year, and the new case now packs an Intel Core i9 and an RTX 3060 instead of an AMD CPU and a GTX 1660 Ti. Is the entry that Asus offers into the current RTX generation worth it?

Yes, this device does well, what it’s intended to do. It brings AAA gaming on a budget. Albeit it’s not able to handle the latest titles at their maximum visual settings, most people will be satisfied by the performance it offers. On the other hand, some things were sacrificed. Usually, the first thing to be compromised is the build quality, but here, we feel this wasn’t the case. Despite the fact that ASUS uses plastic for the majority of this build, the notebook is pretty strong and doesn’t feel cheap. However, the battery life is mediocre. If you get the device with the 48Wh unit, it will last for no more than 6 hours of Web browsing, and a bit over 4 hours of video playback. This figure will be a lot smaller if you multitask or add an intensive workload. ASUS TUF Gaming F17 (FX706)’s 144Hz IPS panel (AUO B173HAN04.9) has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a good contrast ratio. Thankfully, it doesn’t flicker at any brightness level.

After two years Asus finally updates the series' case and adds an Alder Lake CPU with DDR5 RAM and RTX GPU, in our case an RTX 3060 with a full 140 W TGP. And while this might sound very promising we need to keep in mind that not all that glitters is gold, and the TUF Gaming F17 has a few flaws that we uncovered in our review. Update: Contrary to what was stated initially, there are no issues with the chassis

Choosing a gaming laptop in 2022 is being more difficult than ever. One of the main questions that arise, is should you wait for 12th Gen Intel-based, or Ryzen 6000H laptops to appear on the market, or the “old” generation is still good enough. While we will know the answer to that, as soon as we get our hands on a new-gen product ourselves, the Tiger Lake-H45 CPUs are probably the best you can get for gaming. If you are willing to spend more on a gaming device, there are a couple of better options on the market. For instance, both the MSI GP76 Leopard and the Lenovo Legion 5i (17″, 2021) feature 130W versions of the RTX 3060 and can be specced higher. This includes the ASUS ROG Strix G17 G713. However, the amount of features and new tech crammed in this price category, makes us wonder how is ASUS getting profit from selling this device. Of course, it has its downsides, but it’s fantastic to see the sheer value, the TUF Gaming F17 (FX706, 2021) provides to its users.
