On the surface, the Asus ROG Strix Scar II (GL504GV) is very similar to the Dell G7 15 7590, which we recently tested. Asus's new laptop shares a lot in terms of specifications, but adds RGB lighting and has a higher price tag. For that extra bit of money, you do get a faster SSD, a better mechanical drive, and an overclocked GPU. The laptop also generally runs a lot cooler and quieter, which is something we really liked. The RGB lighting is cool but if you're not a fan, you can turn it off.

The Asus ROG Strix Scar 2 with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 is the same as its non-RTX counterpart in every way, save for the GPU. Even with this small change, it offers noticeable improvements in GPU-centric tasks like gaming, photo editing and video editing. You still get a great keyboard which works for typing long documents as well as it does for gaming. The display is great for all round use and the narrow bezels make it more immersive. The only real downside to the machine (besides the fact that it could be more powerful) is that its heavy and not exactly a "portable" laptop.

The Asus GL504 checks all the right boxes that are required for a good gaming laptop. The performance is similar to what you expect from a laptop of this calibre. On top of that, the design and build scores high with gamers, except for the wild RGB lighting on the keyboard. The battery life is also fairly good for a gaming laptop and you won't require to plug in external speakers to get optimum audio performance in games. If these are all that matters to you in a gaming laptop, the GL504 makes a good case for itself at Rs 1,64,990.

Value discussion aside, Asus has designed the Strix Scar II to be accessible and deliver a decent 1080p gaming experience. You won't find much to set it apart from other generally good gaming laptops at this price point, but it's a good all-round package nonetheless.
