The Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 is not just a simple high-end gaming laptop. The 16:10 WQXGA screen and the very good speakers set the Asus notebook apart from the rest of the competition. Read our review to learn what else the Zephyrus M16 has to offer.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 may not be the very best in class when it comes to a performance vs price assessment, but it's certainly in the conversation – and it has enough about it besides its gaming capabilities to push it near the top of your shortlist if you're in the market for a gaming laptop. It's absolutely worth considering if you want a gaming laptop that looks good without being overly flashy. We did get a few glitches in terms of performance but overall the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 did very well in pushing out high frame rates on the latest titles. It's worth mentioning that the on-board software gives you plenty of flexibility when it comes to balancing performance, battery life, cooling and other elements, so you can decide what's most important to you at any time. Aside from the raw hardware specs, the laptop has got an excellent screen, plenty of ports, and a keyboard that's a pleasure to type on.

As technology gets better, modern gaming laptops have started offering exceptional performance with portability. With the ROG Zephyrus M16, Asus has managed to squeeze in an 11th gen Intel Core i9 processor and an Nvidia RTX 3070 GPU into a compact notebook that still offers a 16-inch screen with a refresh rate of 165Hz, terrific keyboard, and great speakers.

So, there you have it. I will repeat the same sentiment that I said about the Zephyrus G15: the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16, while not quite the thin and light portable powerhouse, is a gaming laptop that checks off all the right boxes, especially when it comes to productivity and gaming. If anything, it harkens back to a time before AMD jumped back into the gaming laptop scene with its Ryzen mobile CPUs, when Intel and its chips was practically the de facto processor for gamers. For that matter, the Core i9-11900H CPU in this machine is refreshing, given the general lack of 11th generation Tiger Lake-powered laptops in our list. Of course, with its steep RM11499 price tag, somewhat identical design, solid design and hardware, the M16 essentially gives fans of the ASUS brand what I personally believe to be a unique scenario: a choice between a laptop powered by Intel’s Tiger Lake or AMD’s AMD Ryzen 5000 mobile series.

And now, the price. There are two variants of Zephyrus M16 available in Malaysia, the RTX 3060 with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD starts at RM8999 and goes up to RM11499 for RTX 3070 with 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD. The ROG Zephyrus is for those who are looking for a hybrid productivity and gaming laptop. It is the perfect combination between an ultrabook and a gaming laptop. The 16-inch 16:10 display is high quality, colour-accurate and fast. This is basically the perfect all-rounder laptop. There are a couple of things to take note of, for example, one of the RAM sticks is soldered to the motherboard. This means if you purchase the 16GB RAM option, one of the 8GB RAM is permanently staying on the motherboard. The second thing is if you solely wanted a gaming laptop for gaming purposes and you don’t really care about the laptop weight or thickness, then you might need to consider other options for example, with RTX 3070 140W or RTX 3080 at 165W.

It does face a lot of competition from within its family at the same price point though. There’s the ROG Zephyrus G15 and the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE, which both offer their own advantages. Personally, I would probably go for the ROG Zephyrus G15, as it shares the same Prismatic Film-infused lid, although it does lose out on the extra bit of screen on the bottom bezel that you get with the ROG Zephyrus M16. You can however get the ROG Zephyrus G15 with a GeForce RTX 3080 under the hood, for the same price as the ROG Zephyrus M16 with the GeForce RTX 3070…

The Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 has a solid construction with a strong hinge design. It also does not scream ‘gamer!’ and has been given sober looks and finish. The gaming is overall smooth though gaming on Performance mode will cause the machine to make some unwanted noise. The audio output on speakers is loud enough for a small room. All in all, the Zephyrus M16 is another quality gaming laptop from the house of Asus with a balance in features.

Gaming laptops were often referred to as beasts or tanks. And, not too long ago. The Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 changes that by offering a top-level performance in a slim and light form factor. The laptop weighs under 1.9kgs, features a high-refresh rate 16:10 display, packs the latest Intel 11th Gen CPU and is more portable than other gaming laptops in the market. The cons include a large 16A plug which can be challenging to use, slight heating when you start demanding more from the machine and probably, the cost not everyone would spend on a gaming laptop. The unit I had is definitely expensive at Rs 2,29,990 but, if you can look beyond these small issues.

In the past you used to have to choose between having a great gaming laptop or a great laptop for work. With the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 you get one that's just as accomplished a gaming machine as it is a work laptop. Granted, there are elements that make it not ideal for work all the time, the battery life being chief among those. But this is a gaming machine after all, so its four-and-a-bit hours per charge maximum is no surprise. Besides, it's more for those who want a great gaming machine first, but don't want an impractical laptop for daily working as well. It's hard to not get too carried away with excitement though. Overall the M16 is a stunningly good gaming laptop, and will eat up most games for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus it looks hot and has a brilliant display. What's not to like?

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 is quite a powerful laptop based on our review of the unit the company lent to us in the Philippines, though it’s not without its quirks. It’s fairly expensive, and it’s clear that the lower power RTX 3070 limits the performance somewhat of the laptop VS its peers. Despite that, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 is still a great choice for anyone who has the money for a powerful gaming laptop that has good battery endurance outside of gaming, and its powerful Core i9 processor and accurate screen make it a good choice for anyone looking for a work machine to edit videos and photos on.

Much like the G15, the ROG Zephyrus M16 is an awesome laptop on paper, but still somewhat skewed in real-life in a couple of ways that you should be aware of before deciding on it. As long as the price is competitive in your region, though, this is worth considering over the G15 for the awesome 16:10 QHD+ screen, the excellent performance across the board, the improved thermals, and the small other extras. However, keep in mind that the battery life takes a hit here from the G15, the thermal module blows the hot air straight into the screen, and that you'll end up paying a premium for this M16 over the AMD model launched earlier in the year.

Despite that slight niggle, I’m still seriously impressed with the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16. It manages to pack a huge amount of power into a slim frame, topped off with rocket-fuelled SSD performance and a spectacularly good display. It’s a cracker of a machine and, if anything, much better value than the Zephyrus G15 we tested recently. If you stick with the 165Hz display, then you’re getting a gaming laptop that costs £300 less, yet it comes with a bigger screen and a faster, larger capacity SSD. The only sacrifice is the slightly lower level GPU.

Asus has tried hard to deliver high-end gaming performance in a very slim and light package. The company has succeeded in some ways – just a few years ago, you'd have had to lug around a literal suitcase if you wanted this level of performance. With the Zephyrus M16, that load comes down to 2kg. You can in fact run today's most demanding games at very reasonable settings, and that too at a resolution greater than 1080p on a large, immersive display. Using an external keyboard and mouse would take care of the physical discomfort (and lack of certain keys), and you still have a very portable gaming or multi-purpose machine. If you can live with some compromises and like the idea of a slim and light gaming laptop, this might be a good choice. I still hope to see Asus and other companies use these new CPUs and GPUs in laptops that aren't as fashion-conscious, with beefier cooling systems, for those who want performance and usability without worrying about looks.

Whether the purpose is professional graphics or high-level gaming, the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 handles the task in superior style. And it has even managed to wrap the power in a unit that is both compact and elegant – and which will instill equal respect at the meeting table and for the LAN party. It costs a lot of money, but considering that it is the second fastest computer we have ever tested, the price is not only reasonable, but almost low.

I’d expect the AMD models to still have an edge in multi-threaded loads and efficiency, but this Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 GU603 will surely be at least competitive with general loads and gaming, so the performance should not be a concern for most potential buyers. Instead, I’d be more worried about the thermals on the higher-power settings and how much of an issue having the hot-air blown straight into the screen is going to be here, something I’m looking forward to properly clarify in that review.

Rather than just stick with ho-hum speed bumps -- though it certainly has rolled out the new 11th-gen Intel Tiger Lake-H CPUs and in some cases, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 series GPUs -- Asus has also spiffed up the designs of several of its gaming notebooks. In some cases, the updates are dramatic, such as a complete overhaul that includes bringing the lift-up keyboard from the ZenBook to the ROG Zephyrus S17. In others the differences are a little more subtle, like the sleeker profile and colorful lid of the Zephyrus M16, which also graduates to a 16-inch display in the same size chassis as the M15 thanks to the ubiquitous bezel shrink ray and 16:10 aspect-ratio fairy dust. The company also announced updates to its TUF F15 and F17 gaming laptops.

As a complete package, the Asus Zephyrus M16 is an acceptable improvement over its predecessor purely from the perspective of its hardware. Asus has done a good job keeping the M16 competitive in the realm of performance. Still, many of the issues we had with the previous model remain — namely, the battery life and how audible it can get when under load. The M16 would be easier to recommend if not for the existence of the updated G15, which we have yet to test but will likely top our list of gaming laptops based on how well prior versions of it have performed. If you need a laptop for a variety of creative applications, the M16 would be the wiser investment. However, if you’re in the market for a gaming laptop, the Ryzen-equipped 2021 model of the G15 with an RTX 3070 is available for $1,849.99 and an RTX 3080 for $2,199.99, making it a better value purely for gaming.

To conclude this review, I have really enjoyed my time with the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16. Form its powerful performance, amazing display, to its stellar build quality, almost everything about this laptop makes it a worthy option in its price segment. Yes, you can get other RTX 3060-powered laptops at much cheaper prices, but their build and display quality are not as good as this one. And the top-of-the-line Intel CPU here delivers stellar performance too. Thus, if you are a gamer and a content creator, the M16 can fulfill both of your requirements. Also, I find Asus’s Armory Crate app to be quite well-made compared to others.

In a vacuum, there’s nothing particularly objectionable about the Zephyrus M16. The exceptional 16:10 display and the, well, existence of a webcam are great additions — and they make the M16 more pragmatic as a primary work driver than other gaming laptops in its class. The addition of Thunderbolt and Intel-specific features like Quick Sync will be icing on the cake for creative professionals who won’t be able to find those benefits in an AMD system. However, the M16 is still a Zephyrus. It’s not intended to be a primary work driver or for coffee-shop creatives; it is, first and foremost, a gaming laptop. And it’s too expensive for its performance. It provides a weaker GPU, worse battery life, and a significantly worse battery-gaming experience than comparably priced AMD systems. You’re paying for this webcam and incredible screen not only with extra money but also with frame rates. That doesn’t mean there’s no audience for the M16. The screen, the upgraded ports, and the webcam aren’t trivial bonuses.

Those looking to buy one of the best possible gaming laptops will want to consider the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU603). It’s pricey but delivers lightning-fast performance in a lightweight, portable PC. The only thing that lets it down is the battery life, but in literally every other area this laptop is excellent.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 is a beauty. From its performance and 16-inch display to its battery life and clicky keyboard, this baby is worth considering if you're on the market for a gaming laptop. However, $1,849 might be too pricey for some, especially those who want to prioritize the GPU or the CPU. If so, consider the Acer Predator Triton 300 SE, which offers the same GPU but for more than $400 less. Keep in mind that you’d be dropping to a 14-inch display with an inferior CPU, less storage and a lower resolution display. Overall, the Zephyrus M16 is a truly badass gaming laptop worth your time and money.

Lisa Gade reviews the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16, a 16” thin and light gaming laptop that also targets creatives. The M16 runs on Intel’s 11th gen 8-core Tiger Lake Core i7 and Core i9 CPUs with Thunderbolt 4 and PCIe 4.0. The notebook PC has NVIDIA RTX graphics and a striking 16:10 aspect ratio QHD+ display with full P3 color gamut. It uses the same chassis as the AMD Ryzen-based Zephyrus G15 and has a healthy selection of ports. A 90WHr battery, single zone RGB keyboard backlighting and a subtle colorful lid effect via reflective mylar underneath are standard. We look at benchmarks, thermals and gaming performance.

Once again, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 doesn't have the longest endurance, but it still lasted a full hour and 44 more minutes running this torture-test of a battery benchmark. More often than not, the battery is meant to be more of an uninterruptable power supply in a gaming notebook, but it seems that ASUS did a nice job balancing endurance and performance.

Let’s start with our summary with the more obvious stuff. First of all, the design looks stunning. The laptop is decently built and has good input devices. Its battery can last for 13 hours of Web browsing, and 8 hours of video playback. Of course, if you add a heavy-duty load, the juice will drain as soon as a lake with a cracked dam. Other honorable mentions here must be the 6*2W speaker setup. Nevertheless, there is one thing that you must know at the end of the day. The prime work scenario of this machine should be content creation. You just can’t let that processor go. It is extremely quick, beats most of the mobile Ryzens of the world, and you get an astonishing display to work on.

With a Core i9-12900H, RTX 3070 Ti, and DDR5 RAM, the Zephyrus M16 contains some powerful hardware. Our extensive test shows whether the gaming laptop is still able to impress toward the end of the Alder Lake and RTX 30xx generation.
