Asus ROG Phone 3 12 GB RAM variant spotted on Geekbench; Game devs can now tap into ROG Phone-specific features via a Unity plugin
Previously, we had reported about the sighting of what is purported to be the Asus ROG Phone 3 on Geekbench. That listing indicated the device as being powered by the Snapdragon 865 SoC and with 8 GB of RAM. Recently, a new entry has surfaced on Geekbench and this seems to be the 12 GB RAM variant of the ROG Phone 3.
The Geekbench 5 results are similar among both the devices with the newer listing showing about a 5% increase in the multi-core score. Apart from the 12 GB RAM and the Snapdragon 865 SoC, not much is revealed about the phone itself. That being said, we do know from a recent Wi-Fi Alliance certification that the ROG Phone 3 will be 2x2 Wi-Fi 6 ready.
In a related development, Asus has announced that it is now a Verified Solutions Partner of Unity Technologies. Developers using the Unity Engine will now have access to Asus's ROG Phone SDK via a plugin on the Unity Asset Store that allows them to optimize games and take advantage of specific ROG Phone features. The new plugin offers five SDKs for tapping into ROG Phone 2 and ROG Phone 3 capabilities. These include:
- ROG TwinView Dock SDK for dual-display support.
- ROG Kunai Gamepad SDK for handling ROG gamepad key events.
- Aura Lighting SDK for configuring and controlling Aura lighting on the ROG Phone.
- Refresh rate control SDK for controlling the refresh rate of the ROG Phone's display.
- Performance boost SDK to allow for a time-limited device performance boost.
Developers using the ROG Phone plugin in Unity can directly contact the Asus ROG R&D team at [email protected] for inputs during the course of game development. Asus will also be engaging directly with game developers over the course of this year.
The ROG Phone 3 can be expected to be announced sometime in June-end or early July alongside the ZenFone 7 as per a recent confirmation from Asus co-CEO Hu Shubin.
