While the iPhone X, iPhone 8/8 plus, Apple Watch 3, and Apple TV announcements took center stage and attracted the most consumer attention, Apple also revealed the new urBeats3 in the Beats by Dre product line. Apple is writing the ‘3’ as superscript, indicating that the name might be the 'urBeats Cubed' rather than the 'urBeats Three.'
The urBeats3 are 3.5mm wired in-ear earbuds with inline controls for volume, music, calls, and microphone. The inline controls also allow the use of RemoteTalk to activate and interact with Siri. Apple must have seen the irony in selling a 3.5mm audio product designed to work with phones that lack a 3.5mm jack, and they have included a lightning adaptor in the box. Noise isolation is advertised in the tech specs, but as far as we can tell this is passive and provided by the cone-shaped silicon tips, which have worse noise isolation than foam-based tips — so don’t buy these for the noise isolation. Optional secure-fit wing tips that hook under the upper ear can be used to help hold the earbuds in during more moderate activity.
The cable is the typical flat style used on Beats products which combined with the magnetic earbuds and hard-shell carry case should help with reducing cable tangle. As for sound quality, the marketing material promises “fine tuned acoustic design … to deliver an exceptional listening experience” as well as “optimized sound output … Laser precision venting … Dual chamber acoustics.” Regardless of all that, we expect the urBeats3 to follow suit with the rest of the Beats product line and provide an increased bass boost for the bass-heads.
The urBeats3 are coming this [Northern Hemisphere] Fall with an MSRP of US$100.

I grew up in a family surrounded by technology, starting with my father loading up games for me on a Commodore 64, and later on a 486. In the late 90's and early 00's I started learning how to tinker with Windows, while also playing around with Linux distributions, both of which gave me an interest for learning how to make software do what you want it to do, and modifying settings that aren't normally user accessible. After this I started building my own computers, and tearing laptops apart, which gave me an insight into hardware and how it works in a complete system. Now keeping up with the latest in hardware and software news is a passion of mine.
