Apple has opened a free manufacturing training hub in Houston within the facility set to begin producing the Mac mini, marking Apple's first U.S. production run for a consumer product.

Apple opened its new Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston, Texas, with CEO Tim Cook attending the opening ceremony. The center offers free training and educational classes to small and medium-sized businesses in Houston.

The 20,000-square-foot facility serves as a workforce development hub, offering hands-on training in advanced manufacturing to students, supplier employees, and small and medium-sized businesses. Training covers identifying and adapting to production challenges in real time, alongside hands-on work with the lab's holographic tables and factory-floor equipment.

The facility builds on the work of the Apple Manufacturing Academy, which opened in Detroit in August 2025 and has already worked with nearly 1,000 American companies on smart manufacturing techniques and AI integration. Houston is Apple's second U.S. manufacturing learning site.

The center sits within the same Houston facility that already builds and ships Apple's advanced AI servers, and it will begin manufacturing the Mac mini later this year, marking the first time the Mac mini will be produced in the U.S.

On the production front, Cook said the site has moved quickly. In under nine months, Apple invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the facility, established a factory, began production, and shipped its first advanced AI servers off the line, all less than a year after the company identified the factory site.
