Apple is reportedly helping LG build smart home devices, and the designs have leaked

Apple is reportedly working with LG on a range of smart home accessories for its upcoming home hub. Although Apple is said to be helping develop the products, LG would sell them under its own brand and handle support. Now, renders shared by leaker pdfu and FCC filings offer a first look at three of those accessories: a smart deadbolt lock, a thermostat and a temperature sensor, revealing their designs and several features ahead of an official announcement.
The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock is shown in Graphite and Silver, with a circular keypad outside the door and an elongated unit inside. The keypad rotates to open, and an included swivel pin can restrict movement on one side to prevent it from hitting a nearby wall. Its light ring and sound volume are adjustable, and an audible alarm can warn when the door has been left open. For automatic unlocking, the lock first checks a compatible device’s access credentials over Bluetooth, then uses ultra-wideband (UWB) to determine its position before granting entry. Tap-to-unlock and master codes are also listed as entry options alongside NFC support. The unit runs on four AA batteries, with emergency power support and two mechanical keys providing backups.
The LG Smart Thermostat uses a round display with a large temperature readout and on-screen adjustment controls. FCC testing also confirms a built-in 60 GHz radar that ould be used to detect someone nearby or approaching. A “Far Sight Display” option also appears in the leaked settings, although neither its behaviour nor the radar’s exact purpose has been detailed. The screen can also show humidity, and its brightness and language can be changed. Calibration and temperature offset settings allow readings to be corrected if they are consistently too high or too low. The thermostat uses a 24-volt AC power supply and supports dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Thread. It also carries a Matter setup code, indicating support for the shared standard designed to let smart home devices work across compatible platforms from different brands.
For temperature and humidity readings elsewhere in the home, LG is preparing a separate temperature sensor. Its magnetic back can attach directly to metal surfaces, while an included adhesive metal plate allows it to be mounted in other locations. The sensor runs on a replaceable 3-volt CR2477 coin battery and reportedly sends an alert when a replacement is needed. Wireless connectivity includes Bluetooth Low Energy and Thread, a low-power network for smart home accessories. Like the lock and thermostat, the sensor also has a Matter setup code in its filings.
These three devices belong to a wider reported lineup that also includes a wired video doorbell, indoor and outdoor security cameras, and a floodlight camera. Apple is reportedly planning to unveil its home hub on October 13, alongside updates to the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini. However, the LG accessories are said to be several months away, and it remains unclear whether they will be announced at the same event. Prices and exact release dates have not been revealed
