Apple could up the megapixel count and the screen size for the iPhone 9
iPhone 9 details are starting to emerge already, even if the 2017 model hasn’t yet been released. It looks like Apple is planning to release an iPhone 9 version with a huge 6.5-inch screen, while all 2018 models will most likely include upgraded cameras. According to DigiTimes, Apple has already booked the Largon facility in China for the production of “above 12 MP” camera modules. Largon is expected to accommodate monthly production capacities of 600 million lens modules in the future, six times the current capacity. The production of the new camera models will start in October 2017.
Largan CEO Lin En-Ping also stated that the future camera modules will be developed with dual or multiple lenses, large apertures and 3D sensing functions. Larger apertures will provide brighter images in low-light conditions, without having to rely on increased ISO ratings. This will bring the image quality of future smartphones closer to what DSLRs can achieve.
Meanwhile, Apple fans will have to settle for the 12 MP cameras in the iPhone 8 that is supposed to be launched on September 12.
