Deal | Apple AirPods Max now available on Amazon for less than $400
Introduced in mid-December 2020, the Apple AirPods Max are the top-of-the-line audio product that comes from the Cupertino-based tech giant. When compared to the in-ear (and less expensive) AirPods and AirPods Pro, the AirPods Max come with larger speakers, better autonomy, more color options, as well as the Digital Crown feature (also used by the Apple Watch). Now, the AirPods Max are down to $399.99 on Amazon, thanks to a 27% discount applied to the $549 launch price. Also, those interested in acquiring AppleCare+ for two years with the headphones get a 25% discount, which leads to a $453.99 price instead of $608.
The discounts mentioned above apply to all color choices, namely Green, Pink, Silver, Sky Blue, and Space Gray. The AppleCare+ bundle also comes with a 90-day promo subscription to Amazon Music, only applicable to new subscribers. According to Camelcamelcamel, the average price of the AirPods Max is currently $474.97. Sadly, there is no pricing data available yet for the aforementioned bundle. After no less than 6,867 validated user reviews on Amazon, the Apple AirPods Max hold a score of 4.6, with 81% perfect ratings and 7% 4-star reviews. However, there are also 6% one-star ratings. Most such negative reviews highlight the poor quality of the protective case, connectivity issues, as well as water buildup underneath the cups after long sessions (roughly four hours of use), which is most likely caused by the use of a full-metal body design.
With 20 hours of battery life, the AirPods Max can get 1.5 hours of autonomy after a brief five-minute charge. The Smart Case that comes in the bundle features magnets that switch the AirPods Max automatically to low-power mode. Since these over-ear headphones use Bluetooth, they are also compatible with Windows and Android devices, although features like Siri require the use of Apple hardware loaded with at least iOS 14.3, iPadOS 14.3, watchOS 7.2, tvOS 14, or macOS Big Sur. Other highlights include the Apple H1 chip (one for each cup), no less than nine microphones, optical and position sensors, as well as accelerometers and gyros. Audio input is also possible via USB and a 3.5 mm jack. Unsurprisingly, the list of features also includes Apple's ANC and spatial audio technologies.
