According to a recent FCC filing, Samsung is actively working on a 25W wireless mobile charger. The charger has the potential to be a gamechanger, enabling rapid charging speeds without the need for a physical connection cable.
At present, Samsung's flagships like the Galaxy S21 top out at support for 15W wireless charging. This is certainly a good clip faster than early wireless charging efforts. However, it is a fraction of their wired charging speeds. The Galaxy S21, for instance, supports cable charging at up to 45W.
The 25W wireless charger mentioned in the FCC filing recording could allow users to fully recharge their devices in under an hour. This could incentivize users to upgrade if the purported Galaxy S22 launches with high-speed wireless charging support.
As of now, details remain thin on the ground about the charger. Samsung's FCC filing confirms, at least, that the 25W unit exists. In the months to come, we expect to hear more and see it being used to top up 2022 Samsung flagship phones.
