Intel could be preparing to give the LGA 1700 users more CPU options as a new leak from RedGamingTech talks of Bartlett Lake-S, a sort of refresh for Raptor Lake Refresh, that allegedly features the same architecture. The new CPUs will reportedly slot in existing LGA 1700 boards after only a BIOS update.

Intel refreshed the 13th-gen Raptor Lake processors in October 2023 with the launch of the 14th-gen Core series processors. Until now, the Raptor Lake Refresh (RPL-R) CPUs were thought of as the last desktop chips for the LGA 1700 socket as the Arrow Lake chips are expected to utilize the LGA 1851. However, according to RedGamingTech, Intel could be preparing new CPUs for consumer desktops, possibly also for mobile products, that will use the existing LGA 1700 socket.

Codenamed “Bartlett Lake”, the chips could act as drop-in replacements for the existing 14th-gen Core processors. The leaker also alleges that the Bartlett Lake-S chips rock practically the same architecture as Raptor Lake and, by extension, Raptor Lake Refresh with the small possibility of a larger L3 cache.

Additionally, the Bartlett Lake-S chips could have an all-P-core SKU with 12 big cores and no E cores. The reason for this seems to be Bartlett Lake’s original nature as a Network and Edge Group (NEX) product. For the initiated, the NEX is a sub-division of Intel that focuses on areas like the Internet of Things, Ethernet chips, etc.

So, Bartlett Lake-S processors purportedly sport the same architecture as the RPL-S chips and bring no mentionable improvements. This begs the question: In the absence of any differentiating factors, what will make consumers pay attention to Bartlett Lake-S? The answer seems to be the cost.

RGT alleges that Intel is cutting costs as much as possible with Bartlett Lake which means that the new chips could launch as affordable upgrades for folks who can’t move on from the LGA 1700 platform. AMD has already released a slew of new CPUs for the aging AM4 platform such as the Ryzen 7 5700X3D (Available on Amazon). So, Intel’s purported strategy isn't anything new.

Unfortunately, we don’t know when or if Bartlett Lake chips will see the light of day. Similarly, we also don’t know the possible SKUs, their configuration, and naming scheme.
