Well, the Triton 300 (PT315-52) is a decent gaming machine. Provided that its price tag is kept relatively low, it has the potential to be both your go-to gaming machine and even your daily driver. How come? Well, we were able to get around 8 hours of Web browsing and video playback from the battery, which is exceptional for a gaming notebook. Especially, given the 58.75Wh battery, which is nowhere near what some manufacturers offer.

These problems will surely be ironed out with future iterations but, for the moment, it's disappointing to see consumers being sold a product that feels a little too much like a prototype. In spite of this, sharing a lot of characteristics with the design of the regular Acer Predator Helios 300 means that there is still a solid gaming laptop beneath it all. The materials are sturdy and the specs, while unimpressive for the price, are perfectly adequate for playing most modern games in 2D. Will these strong foundations save the Acer Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Edition from becoming nothing more than an amusing novelty? If not, what options should you consider instead? Let’s take a look.

The SpatialLabs 3D technology showcased by the Acer Predator Helios 300 is undoubtedly very impressive and it’s clearly heading in the right direction. The effect is incredibly immersive given the right game, and even with the inherent drawbacks such as having to keep your head still, it’s great fun to game with. Right now, though, I’m not convinced there are enough compelling 3D Ultra-compatible games to justify the cost. Perhaps if the Helios 300 didn’t cost so much more than an equivalent non-SpatialLabs gaming machine I could make a solid case for considering it. However, when all is said and done, I still can’t quite shake the feeling that this is a technology demonstrator and that it would be wiser to wait for the next-generation model with an RTX40-series GPU and maybe even a higher native refresh rate.

The Acer Predator Helios 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition (PH3D15-71) is an interesting gadget for wealthy gamers or enthusiasts. Its display can show crisp and sharp images in 2D while the overall quality of the 3D effect is questionable. Actually, it was very interesting to play games without wearing glasses but the technology definitely needs improvement. If money isn’t a problem and you want to experience something fresh and new, buying this laptop can give you a bit more fun than usual. On the other hand, for that kind of price tag, you can find gaming devices with bigger 2D displays and GeForce RTX 4090 under the hood. The short battery life and the noise levels in “Turbo” mode can be a real no-go for some people. Still, the build quality is very good, the cooling can successfully tame the powerful internals, and the port selection includes five USB ports and even an SD Card reader.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
67.5%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
